CoughAssist is a unique machine designed by Emerson Respironics that uses noninvasive therapy to remove secretions in people that have trouble with coughing due to debilitating medical conditions. Such conditions include, but not limited to: (1) Post-Polio, (2) Multiple and Lateral Sclerosis, (3) Quadriplegia, (4) Hereditary Muscular Dystrophy / Atrophy, (5) Spinal Cord Injuries, (6) Myasthenia Gravis, and (7) Anterior Horn Cell Disease. The CoughAssist also helps individuals that cannot cough due to bronchopulmonary diseases, including emphysema, cystic fibrosis, and bronchiectasis. - CoughAssist comes as either automatic (CA-3000) or manual (CM-3000) model. The automatic model contains timing mechanisms to automate the inspiratory and expiratory cycles. The manual model comes with a manually operated valve to shift from positive to negative pressure and back
